Mold testing is another critical part of the mold removal process. A San Francisco mold testing company will have the capability to take samples of the air as well as samples from the surfaces of areas believed to contain mold. Air samples are collected through a special kind of vacuum which pulls air into a funnel that collects airborne particles onto a cassette. A laboratory then analyzes the cassette for a variety of different elements of potential air contamination. If mold spores are present in the air of the room, the lab analysis will be able to tell for sure.

Surface sampling can be done in one of two ways. The first way is to take a swab sample of the mold. Mold inspectors use a special kind of rod with a collection spool at the tip, which is rubbed on a potential mold colony. The mold absorbed into the swab is then analyzed in a lab. The other method of surface sampling uses tape samples. With a transparent adhesive, the inspector dabs the moldy area, collecting particles of the mold that can be seen easily through a high-powered microscope.

The air and surface samples from the mold testing portion of the mold inspection are then sent to an independent laboratory for analysis. Microbiologists will identify the type or types of mold present by cross-checking the features of the mold.  Once the mold varieties are identified, the possible health threats can be assessed, and San Francisco mold removal experts can draw up a plan for the remediation of the mold.
